I am an identical twin. My brother and I were fortunate to come into this world healthy, strong and without complication.

There are however 800,000 reported pregnancies per year in the United States alone that aren’t as fortunate.

Enter The Fetal Hope Foundation. Their mission is to provide support, provide information, fund research, increase awareness and be an outlet for leading medical information pertaining to fetal syndromes. We are all about arming families and healthcare providers with information and helping to save babies’ lives.

The Race for Fetal Hope is a premier national series that raises awareness about fetal syndromes with proceeds benefiting the Fetal Hope Foundation. The Race for Fetal Hope encompasses health, fight against obesity in both adults and our children, as well as most importantly highlights awareness for and the hope that exists for expecting parents who have been diagnosed with a fetal syndrome.

I will be the Master of Ceremony for The Children’s Hospital Race For Hope this Sunday, November 14, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. I hear this year there will be over 2000 participants. See you there!

Consumer Reports recently tested 12 of the top selling brands of sunscreen products and found that the spray-on type of sunscreens tested best.

The top four performing spray-on formulas:

Target brand Up and Up Sport Continuous SPF 30

Walgreens Sport Continuous SPF 50

Banana Boat Sport Performance Continuous SPF 30

Aveeno Continuous Protection SPF 50

Consumer Reports says all four products worked well even after a person soaked in water for 80 minutes. (Google: Consumer Reports sunscreen for a direct link)

This all sounds great… until you take it one step further and consider what you are actually putting on your skin. The most common ingredients in non-mineral sunscreens are oxybenzone, octisalate and avobenzone, found in 60, 58, and 50 percent of all sunscreens on the market, respectively. The most common, oxybenzone, can trigger allergic reactions, is a potential hormone disruptor and penetrates the skin in relatively large amounts. Some experts caution that it should not be used on children. Three of every five sunscreens rated by EWG (Environmental Working Group) are non-mineral, and one in five sunscreens combines both mineral and non-mineral active ingredients.

I have had bouts with skin cancer — I take this stuff very seriously.¬† Type in your products including makeups. lipbalms and¬† lotions that contain sunscreens and find out how stable the formulation is, how safe it may be for your child and to what degree it can enter your body.¬† Shockingly amazing isn’t it?????????

–Looking out for the health of your body and mind!

2008 Rocky Mountain Senior Games

Dawn and I have had the privilege for the past four years to witness some pretty incredible feats of strength from what most would consider, an unlikely source.  AND this year at the Rocky Mountain Senior Games was no exception!

In this video you will witness a 74 year old athlete doing a 280 pound bench press. It’s impressive! — Most reasonably fit 20 somethings would find this challenging.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a study from Molecular Nutrition & Food Research that reports– adding citrus juice to green tea promotes better antioxidant absorption. Less than 20% of the catechins (antioxidants that may lower the risk of disease) in green tea survive in the nonacidic environment of the intestines. Scientists added citrus juices to the tea and found that with lemon juice present, 78% of catechins remaind intact during digestion and 71% with orange juice. That’s quite the boost!

Looks like I will be sucking on the lemons before the green tea shooter.
