Next time someone says, “Go Take a Flying Leap.” You should thank them!
There’s so much talk today about “taking the next step” or “going to the next level” that I’m tired of hearing about it. The truth is I have never gotten from where I was to where I wanted to be by taking some small step.
Granted every journey does begin with the first step… but for pete’s sake do you know how many small steps it takes to go from being broke to rich, from miserable to happy, from hopeless to triumphant? The truth is I don’t want to find out… I already l know it’s too many. I’ve taken thousands of small steps in my life that didn’t lead where I wanted to go.
But it took a giant LEAP to get to where I am today. To make a radical change or a quantum shift it takes a giant leap of faith. A young man telling his girl he loves her for the first time, an athlete pushing his or her body to the brink of disaster to achieve what “can’t be achieved”, a battered or abused wife finally leaving her abuser. All those things take a leap of faith, all of them take courage, and all of them lead to a better more fulfilling life. (SHARE YOUR STORY)
My guess is that you are also ready for that giant LEAP in your own life.
If you’re tired of taking one step at a time only to find your true happiness has moved 3 steps further away then join me, Tom Terwilliger and warrior trainer, Aaron Huey for a life changing event that will have you ready to trade in that long slow march to who knows where for one giant LEAP to success and the life you deserve. Go to Experience the LEAP and register… it’s FREE.

Bar none the number one fear I am hearing from the personal training community has to do with a declining client base in this tricky downword economy. That fear is a direct reflection of the economic climate itself.
As much as I understand the damage that scarcity thinking and fear does to optimism and forward momentum even I have to admit that people do seem to have tightened up on their discretionary spending. As we know most of our clients are of the misperseption that training is a luxury item. And as a result your services may be on the block when considering spending cuts.
So what can we do about it? Do we continue to do business as usual or do we honker down, tighten our belts, and brace for the worst?
Is your stratagy geared for success or survival? Or have you chosen the ostrich style approach?
Share with us one tactic or your whole stratagy and I’ll send you my ‘Top 10 Success Tactics for Prospering in a Down Economy’
I want to here from you.

Let’s face it, getting fit takes some effort. But getting into peak condition, shredded, or cut is an entirely different animal. Comparing the two is like comparing going out for a jog to running a marathon.
Getting fit requires discipline and desire while getting into peak condition takes both of those as well as grit, determination, single-mindedness, and the ability to push past the pain barrier.
Getting fit requires desire while the getting into peak condition requires heart.
Getting fit can be a fight. Getting shredded is a battle.
A fight can go as long as 15 rounds and is fueled by a desire to win. A battle is a “must win” that can last months or years. Your fitness goal and current condition will determine whether you are facing a fight or a battle. (more…)

It is not the event but how we INTERPRET the event that dictates the emotional state. It is not the experience itself but the MEANING we give it that will determine whether it becomes empowering or disempowering, whether it strengthens our inner game or weakens it.

Do you know the #1 reason why most people never get what they want in life? It’s NOT because they don’t have enough time, money, or ambition to pursue it. Although they may think those things themselves are what they want. And it’s NOT because they’re not working their butts off.
In fact most people work far harder than they need to. All that work and effort in most cases is fueled by an unconscious desire not so much to “get what I want” but rather to “hold on to what I already have.”
It might appear to some that the age in which we live has facilitated a change in motivation for many from a burning desire to achieve what we want to a fear driven battle to hold on to what we have. Even with the wide spread achievement awareness created by The Secret and the Law of Attraction, “I just want to be comfortable” seems to be the battle cry of the fearful would-be survivors. It is the psychology of how not to fail vs how to be victorious… and is very easy (more…)

You know how sometimes it can be a little challenging just getting out of bed on a Monday? And how you get a little discouraged and frustrated on occasion because you′re not where you want to be yet and sometimes it feels like you never will? You′re not alone. We all experience those same feelings now and then.
The question is how do handle it when those feeling want to shut you down. Having the courage to push, pull, and climb your way up to where you need to be in order to see where your going is as easy as1, 2, 3 when you stop making it about “ME” (you that is) and start to understand that for you to be great you must help others be greatbut to help others be great you have to make it about them. One of the fasted ways to build massive confidence is to stop worrying about how you will look or be perceived or that you′re too young, too old, too inexperienced, not gifted, or even physically challenged, or that maybe you′ll fail, or succeed and start making it about doing WIT (whatever it takes) to lift the people around you to the level of their potential.
Sometimes we can do that by simply showing them what is possible. Abe Lincoln once said, “The best way to help the poor is by not being one.”
But what is possible for you? What are you capable of? What I have learned along the way is that I am capable of a great deal more than I even thought possible when I make it about someone or something else. When I first started presenting and teaching from the stage for example it was about me not looking foolish, or making a mistake, or making sure I got the data right. That self focused energy caused me to tighten and contract. To fully expand it had to be about the participants and not meit had to be about their experience not mine. When you make your goals and aspirations pertinent to the success of others or about your ability to affect others you find an inner strength and purpose that cannot be found otherwise.
A profound example of “purpose beyond self” is the story of Dick and Rick Hoyt. When Rick Hoyt was born in 1962 the doctors told his parents that he would be nothing more than a vegetable and would be better off in an institution for the rest of his life. His dad disagreed and made a decision on the spot that his son would have a shot at life. That decision not only changed his son′s life but his life as well and in a way that he never expected.
Some twenty years later Dick and Rick Hoyt have become one of the most inspirational father and son teams in the history of athletics having competed together in several marathons, triathlons, and Ironman competitions. Dick, who is 65, has pushed, pulled, and carried his son across the country and over hundreds of finish lines. Rick is confined to a wheelchair while at home but when competing that same chair moves like the wind under the horse power of his dad′s motivated legs and lungs. When Dick cycles Rick rides on the seat in front of him leading the way. When Dick swims Rick floats along in the wake on a small stable raft pulled by his dad. Could or would Dick Hoyt have ever dreamed of or have been capable of performing such super human tasks without his desire for his sons to live life to the fullest and experience the joy of competing? Well we humans are capable of some amazing things when we are pushed, pulled, and carried and even greater things when we push, pull, and carry.
Check out this amazing video of Dick and Rick Hoyt

It happens to some of the best athletes, CEOs, actors, and public speakers in the world the loss of words, the inability to take action or even move, and the proverbial dropping of the ball. For some, choking under pressure comes at the 9th inning when the game is tied, bases are loaded, there are two outs and the best hitter in the league has just stepped up to the plate. For others it comes with the mere thought of playing the game.
An athlete, CEO, actor, or speaker can have all the outer game tools in his or her toolbox but if she doesn’t have the inner game needed to put those tools to work she will find herself frustrated, falling short of her full potential, and choking under pressure.
Imagine your inner game like the software in a computer. You can have the greatest (more…)

Transcripts from the “Personal Trainer Mastery Series” interview with Tom Terwilliger conducted by Shawn Phillips
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt~
Shawn: Although he′s been your host for the past 5 weeks.I don′t really know how much you know about our guest tonight. So allow me to share a few things you may or MAY NOT know about the man himself, Tom Terwilliger (more…)

I just got back from an experience that ranked right up there with competing in the Mr. Olympia, in fact it could only really be compared to being a competitor on American Idol.
Mr. Olympia contest…that’s me 2nd from the right.
A few weeks a go I was invited to compete in a Speaker/Trainer competition for one of the biggest training/motivation organizations in the world “Peak Potentials” led by T. Harv Eker the author of the massive best selling book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. What started out for me as a fun “what the hell” adventure quickly brought out the competitor in me and the 60 plus world class speakers I was evidently up against. I had no Idea that making it to the finals as one of the top 15 would lead to a freaking rollercoaster ride that would challenge my confidence to the core.
Confidence is one of those things that is present when your in your comfort zone, familiar territory, doing what you know. Those parameters are different for everyone of us. What is comfortable for one person may be absolutely terrifying for someone else. The real key to finding the ability to get comfortable and confident in any situation is self esteem, a belief in yourself, and letting go of fear. That level of confidence and self esteem can be developed quickly without years of trial and error, success/failure…
If you would like to know the secret to develeoping “The Inner Game of Confidence” email me at Contact@TomTerwilliger.com or go to http://www.innergameofconfidence.com/
There I was stepping on to a stage in front of the very same judges that just a moment before had one of my competitors literally in tears…after what I thought was a pretty good performance. Pretty good wasn’t going to cut it here. T. Harv and the other judges were looking for just the right fit for their organization. I had to reframe quickly if I were going to survive the next 20 minute and deliver a winning speech. I knew that the brutally honest critiques that the judges were shattering my peers with was in actuality extremely valuable coaching.
The Judges…
As someone who is always looking to improve I saw this moment as an extremely rare and valuable opportunity to take not only my speaking/training ability to the next level but also my confidence…because man was I ever out of my comfort zone.
Harv stopped me before I got my first word out. “Do you think you took command of that stage and the audience when you stepped up?” Before I know it I had jumped from the pan into the fire…and I am going to tell you it got freaking hot.
The answer was “NO” I did not! Now I know how to command a stage…I’ve done it a thousand times, but I have also fallen on my face a thousand times as well. It was beginning to look like this day was going to be the latter. What I didn’t know was that the heavy critique, the merciless scrutiny of every word and body movement had a very specific intention…there was a meaning to the madness. It was to push, poke, prod each one of the contestants to the breaking point…with the intention of seeing who would break and who was coachable . Although on that first day of the semi-finals I did not achieve my goal of knocking their socks off with what I fully expected to be the motivational talk of the century…I was coachable.
The merciless Harv and Me…
The next day was an entirely different story. I woke up feeling defeated, and beaten…Just like I did at the Nationals one year when I was told by one of the judges just moments before taking the stage for my final performance (ready to win) that the decision had already been made and that I had finished 2nd…before the final performance was even in. It is at those times when we feel defeated and even crushed that our resolve is truly tested. True character is not build on success it is built on overcoming adversity…as Rocky would say “it’s not how hard you can hit that matters…it’s how hard you can get hit again and again and keep on moving forward…that what winning is made of.”
I could barely eat my breakfast that morning…I felt nauseous like I wanted to go back to my room and crawl under the covers. But when I stepped back into that room and was once again surrounded by my peers…my competitors a switch inside me went on, the same switch that drove me back to the Nationals the very next year…this time to win.
With my heart pounding and mouth as dry as the guy following Lance Armstrong up the Perinea’s Mountains I stepped back on that stage…this time as a true warrior. It’s funny some times in life, that quite often we are afraid to take the first step or make the first move toward what we realy want, because it may mean failure, embarrassment, or even the possibility of success…and no turning back. It was like that on the stage that morning…I knew once that first word slipped from my mouth there would be no turning back and that it all hung on the commitment, resolve and attitude that accompanied those first few syllables.
And I know at that moment…even before it happened that I was about to achieve my earlier goal. Had I not found my inner warrior and gotten back up on that stage it simply would not have happened. I would have walked away with a new and disempowering “FAILURE” reference. Even if I had fallen on my face on that second day I still would have built another layer of emotional muscle just for getting back up there. So really…I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
What’s your goal your intention? Were is it that you won’t to be in your life…what is it that represents that intimidating stage for you? And more importantly what’s been holding you back? We all get knocked down. Every single one of us. I want to encourage you to get back up. No more excuses…find your warrior and get into the battle. I think you’ll find that any wounds you may experience are only superficial. Gain more confidence - http://www.innergameofconfidence.com/
