Next time someone says, “Go Take a Flying Leap.” You should thank them!
There’s so much talk today about “taking the next step” or “going to the next level” that I’m tired of hearing about it. The truth is I have never gotten from where I was to where I wanted to be by taking some small step.
Granted every journey does begin with the first step… but for pete’s sake do you know how many small steps it takes to go from being broke to rich, from miserable to happy, from hopeless to triumphant? The truth is I don’t want to find out… I already l know it’s too many. I’ve taken thousands of small steps in my life that didn’t lead where I wanted to go.
But it took a giant LEAP to get to where I am today. To make a radical change or a quantum shift it takes a giant leap of faith. A young man telling his girl he loves her for the first time, an athlete pushing his or her body to the brink of disaster to achieve what “can’t be achieved”, a battered or abused wife finally leaving her abuser. All those things take a leap of faith, all of them take courage, and all of them lead to a better more fulfilling life. (SHARE YOUR STORY)
My guess is that you are also ready for that giant LEAP in your own life.
If you’re tired of taking one step at a time only to find your true happiness has moved 3 steps further away then join me, Tom Terwilliger and warrior trainer, Aaron Huey for a life changing event that will have you ready to trade in that long slow march to who knows where for one giant LEAP to success and the life you deserve. Go to Experience the LEAP and register… it’s FREE.

Bar none the number one fear I am hearing from the personal training community has to do with a declining client base in this tricky downword economy. That fear is a direct reflection of the economic climate itself.
As much as I understand the damage that scarcity thinking and fear does to optimism and forward momentum even I have to admit that people do seem to have tightened up on their discretionary spending. As we know most of our clients are of the misperseption that training is a luxury item. And as a result your services may be on the block when considering spending cuts.
So what can we do about it? Do we continue to do business as usual or do we honker down, tighten our belts, and brace for the worst?
Is your stratagy geared for success or survival? Or have you chosen the ostrich style approach?
Share with us one tactic or your whole stratagy and I’ll send you my ‘Top 10 Success Tactics for Prospering in a Down Economy’
I want to here from you.

1. Plan and Prepare: Prepare your meals for the day the night before or that morning. Know what you are going to eat and when. Pack food in Tupperware and a cooler if you are to be away from home a good part of the day. Any time you are caught unprepared and hungry you have a 97.9% greater chance of screwing up.
2. Eat 5-6 small meals per day: Eating small meals every 2-3 hours keeps your blood sugar stable and keeps you from going into that “Ill eat anything in sight” hunger mode. If you have ever dug for change while eyeing the junk food vending machine you know what I’m talking about. You cannot afford to miss scheduled meals; doing so will set your metabolism into a confused (more…)

Let’s face it, getting fit takes some effort. But getting into peak condition, shredded, or cut is an entirely different animal. Comparing the two is like comparing going out for a jog to running a marathon.
Getting fit requires discipline and desire while getting into peak condition takes both of those as well as grit, determination, single-mindedness, and the ability to push past the pain barrier.
Getting fit requires desire while the getting into peak condition requires heart.
Getting fit can be a fight. Getting shredded is a battle.
A fight can go as long as 15 rounds and is fueled by a desire to win. A battle is a “must win” that can last months or years. Your fitness goal and current condition will determine whether you are facing a fight or a battle. (more…)

Last weekend I was in Kirkland, Washington, a small very affluent waterfront town just north of Seattle hosting its 2nd Annual TTTS Race for Hope (Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome). The event was a massive success and although in the shadow of the passing off my dear friend, Steve Stone that same weekend… I had a blast.
It seems that giving back was exactly what I needed. The experience made me acutely aware of the fact that focusing on our own pain, loss, or self pity can be a major obstacle to our success, fulfillment, and happiness. Last weekend was an exercise in shifting focus from self to others. By giving something back in the form of my time and expertise to those people who needed it I received a tremendous gift in return.
Whenever we focus to deeply on ourselves especially during times of challenge our own wow’s, insecurities, and self imposed short comings are magnified. If on the other hand we were to put those things into perspective and shift our focus outward we would soon see as I did this weekend that we’re in pretty darn good shape.
The gift I received was twofold:
First, I was surrounded by survivors, children who if not by the grace of god and the miracle of modern medicine would not even be alive today. Little boys and girls who’s identical twin brothers and sisters may have sacrificed their lives for them. As well as the fortunate little ones who get to embrace their brother or sister every day. Just being around their energy was like a jolt of electricity into my system.
Secondly, I was reminded of the importance of both contribution and gratitude. In fact I was tremendously grateful for the opportunity to contribute and thrilled to have something worth contributing.
So when you start retreating back into yourself and begin thinking about how tough it is to get started, or keep going, and make it to the finish line… instead start making it about someone else and not you.
Start giving back and contributing to others and I believe you will find life to be a whole heck of a lot easier and a lot more fun. You’ll also discover that it’s not really about the starting line or the finish line but rather what is in between.
PS. Yeah, that’s me lying there at the finish line… I gave it my all.

It is not the event but how we INTERPRET the event that dictates the emotional state. It is not the experience itself but the MEANING we give it that will determine whether it becomes empowering or disempowering, whether it strengthens our inner game or weakens it.

Do you know the #1 reason why most people never get what they want in life? It’s NOT because they don’t have enough time, money, or ambition to pursue it. Although they may think those things themselves are what they want. And it’s NOT because they’re not working their butts off.
In fact most people work far harder than they need to. All that work and effort in most cases is fueled by an unconscious desire not so much to “get what I want” but rather to “hold on to what I already have.”
It might appear to some that the age in which we live has facilitated a change in motivation for many from a burning desire to achieve what we want to a fear driven battle to hold on to what we have. Even with the wide spread achievement awareness created by The Secret and the Law of Attraction, “I just want to be comfortable” seems to be the battle cry of the fearful would-be survivors. It is the psychology of how not to fail vs how to be victorious… and is very easy (more…)

My drink of choice for a long time now has been green tea. Yesterday I stumbled upon a study from Molecular Nutrition & Food Research that reports– adding citrus juice to green tea promotes better antioxidant absorption. Less than 20% of the catechins (antioxidants that may lower the risk of disease) in green tea survive in the nonacidic environment of the intestines. Scientists added citrus juices to the tea and found that with lemon juice present, 78% of catechins remaind intact during digestion and 71% with orange juice. That’s quite the boost!
Looks like I will be sucking on the lemons before the green tea shooter.

Music is commonly used to help induce certain states and feelings. Some music can make us feel more aggressive, or completely relaxed, and still other types of music can induce feelings of nostalgia. We also know that music and exercise has been going hand in hand since long before Jane Fonda ’s aerobic video’s hit the scene.
The right music can help produce energy in the body and in the mind simultaneously. Through actual scientific studies researchers have discovered that the frequencies in some music can actually optimize the flow of energy in the body and brain. Through their studies researchers have been able to demonstrate how most people live their daily lives in a weakened state and not able reach their full potential as a result of several external reasons.
They believed that over 60,000 man-made chemicals in our air, food and water supply, actually interrupt the flow of energy in our bodies. In addition, they have also demonstrated how things such as cell phones and mp3 players actually contribute to that weakened state. As a way of counteracting these negative environmental effects some researchers have looked to the possibility of music. Using the harmonic recording of a monk chanting they discovered that there were actual physiological changes in the body and positive changes in brain wave activity. This inspired a search for other types of music that would reproduce the same effect.
They invited musician Mark Romero (more…)
